Moncler Sent Polar Bears Down The Runway, & It Was (Mostly) Awesome

The hottest, most buzzworthy thing in fashion right now isn't a Céline bag. Far from it, actually. It's polar bears. Yes, you read that correctly: polar bears. We know it sounds a little weird, but bear with us (sorry, couldn't help it).

Moncler Gamme Rouge finished off its Paris Fashion Week show with bundled-up models in picture-perfect snow bunny makeup walking arm-in-arm with some life-size fuzzy friends, and though they were technically humans in costume, we're willing to overlook that fact in the name of what was perhaps the most fun-loving presentation of the season.

Except for one thing. While horsing around with human bears and real, live dogs, these models were mostly clad in fur. All kinds of fur — and we're betting it wasn't vintage, either. Giambattista Valli's collection for the heritage sportswear brand had a great base with cool silhouettes and coats bound to keep you warm without cramping your style, but frankly, we would've been plenty pleased with faux, high-tech materials. There's just something about enlisting animals (both real and costumed) to spice up a show full of their deceased peers that feels very wrong. As much as we love the idea of frolicking polar bears (and boy do we), this jarring juxtaposition feels hard to overlook.
