Net-A-Porter is already our first stop when it comes to dream-ticket shopping sprees, and there's almost nothing that could break that habit. There is, however, something that could make it even more addictive: The addition of a beauty department! The e-tailer for all things high-end is adding its signature curated touch to makeup, hair products, fragrances, nail polish, and skin care for the launch of Beauty: The Quintessential Edit on March 20.
The company's managing director, Alison Loehnis, told WWD that not offering beauty was a disconnect. "By being at the front lines, we have an enormous amount of insight and exposure to talent and also product," she said. But, don't think expansion means a compromise for the brand's cultured, crème-de-la-crème tastes. Think of this as your new one-stop shop for hard-to-find products made with quality ingredients, and the absolute best of the international beauty market, including brands like Chantecaille, Aesop, 3 LAB, Beauty Works West, Philip B, Ilia, Joya, James Read, Le Métier de Beauté, and more.
We don't doubt that Net-A-Porter will remain the gold standard in online shopping for years to come, but there's no intention to add a stand-alone beauty offshoot in the future. The new addition will be integrated into the rest of the site's clothing and accessories. The product line-up will be very closely curated and rolled out gradually, and Loehnis maintains that "the most interesting part" of beauty is its intersection with fashion as part of a full look. We couldn't agree more.
