This “Sassy” Scent from Carven Was SO Worth The Wait

We have mad love for Carven — the cult French brand, helmed by creative director Guillaume Henry, has just the right mix of irreverence and youthful vigor. Its fancy frocks and stellar separates are the things our closets' dreams are made of. Are we gushing? Can't be helped — we just truly love it that much.

So, you can bet we received the news that Carven would be launching its first perfume in over 50 years with barely concealed joy. There may or may not have been some jumping around, hand clapping, and excited squealing involved.

The scent, which officially launches tomorrow exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue (although it's available for pre-order now), was conceived and created by perfumer Francis Kurkdjian and features notes of mandarin blossom, white hyacinth, sweet pea, jasmine, ylang ylang, sandalwood, and patchouli. "I wanted a fragrance that would resemble a huge bouquet of freshly cut flowers, with temperament and a lingering sillage," he says.

The result is a floral scent that's fresh, ethereal, ultra-feminine, and "just a little sassy." While it's by no means a revolutionary fragrance, it's definitely one that smells amazing and leaves behind a lingering scent trail that's enticing without being overpowering or cloying. We've had a few appreciative sniffs on the subway while wearing it (and more than one woman has stopped us to ask what it was). If that's not the sign of a beautiful, unique scent, we don't know what is.

The brand has created four adorable video vignettes to help celebrate the launch of Le Parfum, each exemplifying their unique take on perfectly polished imperfection. Our favorite, "The Studio," shows a gorgeous model on set with a photographer demonstrating that characteristic sass we're so fond of around these parts.
