Joe Manganiello, perhaps one of the most traditionally "masculine"-looking guys in Hollywood, has shaved his face, and the world at large is left feeling slightly bereft. Did you ever have a male family relative who seemed to have had a beard forever, and then they shaved it on a lark, and you were alarmed by their transformation? Like, suddenly they looked too young and, in some ways, a bit naked? That is what is going on here.
We knew Manganiello as Alcide, a flippin' werewolf in the True Blood world, who was literally covered in fur. And, dear readers, we don't want to be particularly anti-change, but that salt-and-pepper beard, the scruffy hair, and those lupine eyes? Well, we just like things the way they were. Why does there always have to be reinvention, change, and development? Why can't we rely on one, simple thing, like the beard of a hunk that looks wonderfully scratchy to the touch?
Are we being totally anti-progress here? Maybe just having a weird visceral reaction? Let us know.
