8 Red-Carpet Looks That Were Hated Then — But Rule Now

As much as we love its possibilities, fashion can be so myopic. The things we once loved feel dated to us now, like, say, Lena Dunham's Golden Globes dress. Regularly, we find ourselves scrolling through image archives wondering who thought it was a good idea to ruche everything.

But, sometimes we have a moment where we see a garment that was absolutely hated, panned by Joan Rivers and the fashion police and making everyone's worst dressed list, that, in retrospect, kind of ruled. (Unfortunately, we still haven't quite come around on Bjork's swan dress. We respect it, we revere it, but we aren't quite ready to celebrate it — yet.) So, we dug through the bad, the reviled, the upsetting, and found some things written off that actually may have been a bit ahead of their time.
