We've always been a bit dubious of the whole idea of "ask and you shall receive." We're not granted everything we ask for — and we don't expect to be. But, perhaps we haven't been asking the right person. Namely, the president of J.Crew, Jenna Lyons, who personally responded to a consumer request in a pretty dope way.
Last August, writer Jenni Avins reached out to Lyons in an open letter published on The Cut. She waxed poetic about her favorite J.Crew swimsuit that's no longer in production. "What I want is smooth, taut fabric that stretches from my shoulders over my chest and ribcage, with hip-high leg holes and an open back to expose my skin to sand, sunshine, and seawater," she wrote. "I want it available in evocatively named colors like hibiscus, marine, and bottle green. (In black, it's simply unstoppable.)" We certainly can relate to Avins' longing for an item once loved and no longer found.
Even better than Avins' ode though, was the fact that Lyons actually responded sympathetically to the weary swimsuit shopper just a few days later with the promise she'd look into the request. And, today, as The Cut reports, Lyons really took the letter to heart and has officially brought back the style that Avins so loves. However, the best part is the advertisement running in the magazine this week with a special handwritten message from Lyons herself. And, if you've also been aching for the return of the scoop-back, it's available for pre-order on J.Crew now.
