Following its Oprah Chai Tea launch, Starbucks is collaborating with yet another great champion of tenacious ladies. The global coffee company enlisted Band of Outsiders to create two limited-edition ceramic mugs, priced $14.95 each, which roll out online June 10 and in stores June 24. Scott Sternberg, the fashion brand's founder and creative director, told Style.com he played with his preferred argot for coffee: drip. "Visually, when that word came into my mind, I could see the paint dripping out of the top of the tumbler," he explained.
The 12-ounce mugs, available in black and multicolor, mark Starbucks' fifth design partnership. (Rodarte, Charlotte Ronson, Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia, and Jonathan Adler have all lent their expertise to coffee accoutrements in the past.) "I think all the messages and images I can put out there will hopefully give people a fuller understanding of what I do, and that it will engage them to check out [Band of Outsiders] further," Sternberg said. "Starbucks is such a huge platform." It's true: Women's Wear Daily notes 9,000 locations will stock the cups. (You-can-do-it Oprah hands, Scott!) The 9,000 stores include the Starbucks across the street from you and the Starbucks across the street from that one.
