Adidas Really Wants This Socks & Slides Thing To Happen

Ah, adidas slides and tube socks — a footwear combination that conjures up memories of late-night stumbles to my dorm’s unisex bathroom, where I’d undoubtedly find a bro embracing the pedal layering. But, the pairing has returned to the style conscious with the brand’s #SocksnSlides lookbook and accompanying social-media push. (Could it be that adidas is in on the whole so-wrong-it’s-right trend, trumping Birks’ and Tevas’ new-again hipness?) Photographer Michael Mayren caught the Adilette — yes, the shoe has a proper name — on a series of fashion-forward feet, like those belonging to blogger India Rose.

“I’ve always worn my slides around the house, usually with basketball shorts and a tee,” Rose says on HUH. “I now have five pairs of Adilettes, one which I’ve covered with grey suede, one with black leather, one with frayed denim, and the other two with the stripes. I alternate between Trefoil adidas white socks, sheer black socks, or no socks depending on my outfit.” (adidas socks — no detail left unturned.) But, does she wear them outside of the house, among the people? She should; it’s the Summer of Normcore, after all. (HUH.)
