As Internet commenters would say, "Is someone chopping onions in here?" Prepare to get a bit misty-eyed when you hear about this good-hearted community organization. Last October, 5-year-old Danny Nickerson was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Sadly, his upcoming birthday on July 25 may be his last, so his mom wants to make it as memorable for Danny as possible.
She started by asking the people of Foxboro, MA, where the Nickersons live, to send Danny birthday cards — lots of them. The community immediately rallied, placing print-outs of an article from the local paper around town publicizing the request.

Then, a Foxboro resident posted a photograph of the flyer on Reddit. "Saw this today around town. A little boy with a brain tumor only wants one thing for his birthday: letters. It takes $0.50 and 10 minutes, but I bet it would mean the world to this kid," Redditor Thechromaticscale wrote.
Danny's simple wish for letters soon spiraled into a groundswell Reddit movement. A public Google Docs spreadsheet was created to track the gifts being sent. One article about Danny mentions that he would love a Super Mario LEGO set, so Redditors are trying to make that happen.
If you'd like to send a card or gift to Danny, he has a P.O. Box at the Foxboro post office. His mother gave him a key, and says he was so excited to open it. Please excuse us while we venture off in search of tissues and stamps. (Happy Place)
