Sure, Jared Leto's man bun was the dude look du jour during last year's award season. But, a new year means a new opportunity for another guy's locks to shine — right? Enter Cary Joji Fukunaga, director of HBO's True Detective, and his long French braids.

As soon as Fukunaga stepped on stage to receive his Emmy for Outstanding Directing, Twitter went crazy. Where had this beautiful man with his luscious plaits been hiding all of our lives? Why had he been shielding himself behind the camera when he and his hair look so good right in front of it? Who is the mastermind behind these beautiful, glorious braids?

The Internet may have been somewhat split on Fukunaga's long twists, but anything to shake up man-styling is A-OK in our book. In fact, we were pretty impressed by how good the braids looked on Fukunaga. Could they shake us out of our Leto man-bun haze? Did he just start a brand-spankin' new runway trend for dudes?

Since the Emmys are the first major award show of the season, we wonder if this style will catch on with Hollywood's other leading men. Kit Harrington, we can see those catnip-like curls weaving quite nicely into a man braid come Oscar's time. Just sayin'.
