In what could very well be the most exciting beauty campaign news since Marc Jacobs signed Jessica Lange, François Nars has tapped actress Tilda Swinton to be the new face of NARS Cosmetics.
In many ways, Swinton is the perfect choice for NARS, a brand that errs more on the side of fashion than mass appeal. Her bone structure is impeccable, her skin is always perfect, and she has the kind of face that could pull off anything.
This also comes at a time when we see more women in the over-40 set nabbing coveted cosmetics contracts. For NARS, Swinton (53) succeeds Charlotte Rampling (68) and Daphne Guinness (46), while Lange is 65, CoverGirl's Ellen DeGeneres is 56, and L'Oréal has Diane Keaton and Andie MacDowell, aged 68 and 56, respectively.

But, for Mr. Nars, the sentiment had less to do with age and more to do with merit. "I love [Tilda's] bold style and really admire her work," he told WWD. "As an actress, she brings such strong personality to the camera."
And, even though the two just recently met, Swinton insisted to the publication that the feeling was mutual.
For the campaign visual, photographed by Nars himself, Swinton appears with graphic liner, perfected skin, and little else. We look forward to seeing more shots of her — and how she influences the brand — in the months to come. (WWD)
