Madewell’s New Collab Is Very Chic (Mais Oui!)

Here at R29 HQ, we have a well-documented obsession with French-girl style. There's a certain je ne sais quoi to it that we can't quite put our fingers on. Madewell understands and shares our fixation: it's enlisted cult-favorite (and not-yet-stateside) Parisian brand Sézane for a limited-edition, 14-piece capsule collection — including Sézane's Insta-famous La Superbe sweatshirt.
Madewell has been honing its cool image since opening shop back in 2006. An editor favorite, its perfectly distressed jeans, laid-back knits and button-downs, and simple silhouettes have earned "essentials" status in the closets of women from coast to coast. Its wares also align perfectly with Sézane designer Morgane Sezalory's understated aesthetic. Thus, Madewell et Sézane was born.
In a press release about the team-up, Sezalory said, "I wanted to strike a balance between our two cities, Paris and New York. I imagined pieces for two women. First, a French woman trying to "fit" in New York — she wants to be chic, but cool and casual in that way Americans do so well. Then, I thought about an American woman wanting to bring a Parisian touch to her wardrobe. The colors are quiet, heels aren’t too high." To be sure, the collection is cool no matter what side of the pond you live on, but it's also incredibly wearable. The knits are cozy, the bags functional, and the boots seasonless. Ahead, see the entire set — priced from $85 to $315 — and have your mouse at the ready. This one's made to sell.
