Valentine's Day is a long way off, but if you're already thinking about the perfect gift for that special someone, Zander Whitehurst has designed a present your partner will never forget. It's a sex toy, but wait, there's more. It's 3D-printed, but that's nothing new; it's personalizable, but that's not revolutionary, either. Wait for it: B3D HEAD is a vibrator in the shape of your head.
"The original idea was targeting long-distance relationships," Whitehurst shared with us via Skype from London, where he is based. "I, myself, was in a long-distance relationship at the time, during my master's [studies] [at New York University]; one of the courses [offered] was something called teledildonics." That course gave Whitehurst his first exposure to computer-controlled sex toys. This knowledge, combined with his own dating experience, prompted the designer and entrepreneur to create a product that would allow long-distance-lovers to literally give their partners head. "I just thought, 'Why not make things a bit more fun?'" Whitehurst laughs.
To make your very own personalized-head vibrator, you'll send a series of photos of your head to B3D HEAD using the company's website. Whitehurst will employ 3D-printing techniques to create a two-inch-wide, one-inch-deep model of your head that contains a Bullet-style vibrator. Whitehurst has already created a few successful prototypes, and he's hoping to launch the company in time for Valentine's Day 2015. The product will be perfect for those "looking to take that long-distance relationship to the next stage," he comments.
In the future, Whitehurst hopes to create vibrators modeled after not only the heads of clients, but also popular celebrities; he has Benedict Cumberbatch in mind especially. Since both Whitehurst and Cumberbatch are Oxford grads, Whitehurst hopes he'll be able to persuade Cumberbatch to participate. Sure, the actor is engaged to be married, but if he agrees to participate, we can at least invite his likeness to bed.
