While James Franco was the host of last night’s Saturday Night Live (and got plenty of laughs with his weird range of characters) it was musical guest Nicki Minaj whose roles won the night. The “Anaconda” rapper stepped in for three sketches, playing Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, and herself.
Just when we thought jokes about Kim Kardashian’s Internet-breaking Paper magazine shoot were over, Nicki stepped into "Weekend Update" as Kim with a new interpretation of the photos.
"The entire thing was completely misinterpreted,” Nicki told Colin Jost, accurately mimicking Kim’s high-pitched monotone. "They forgot to put the background in, so the photos are completely out of context.”

We rather liked the new Photoshopped versions of the nude pics, with Nicki’s head and new backgrounds revealing socially conscious intentions, such as a PSA about getting regular OB/GYN checkups and the dangers of the Keystone Pipeline.
Nicki also got cheeky (sorry) in an MTV spoof called “Jingle Ballerz,” playing Beyoncé as the Virgin Mary. And, anyone disappointed that she performed “Bed of Lies” and “Only”/“All Things” instead of “Anaconda” got a tiny fix of the song during the “Brain Space” sketch, where she spit the verse that Jeremy couldn’t get out of his head.
With her early background in theater (she studied acting at LaGuardia High School), Nicki looked eager to take part in the show. These appearances seem a good sign that she could hold her own as a host sometime soon.
