Game day is fast approaching and in a matter of hours, grown men will willingly throw themselves at each other over a piece of (hopefully inflated) pigskin for the amusement of inebriated citizens across the nation and that coveted Super Bowl trophy. Katy Perry, as you're probably aware, will roar her way through halftime.
According to the pop star, this performance will be the biggest one of her career. She told Billboard: "Everyone has been asking me if I'm going to be nervous before the halftime show. I'm like, 'I'm fucking human.' This is the biggest event of my career." To prep, Perry said she's been paying extra attention to Madonna's 2012 and Beyoncé's 2013 performances because they were "clean and streamlined." Specifically, Perry admires how Bey "brought so much strength, so much sassiness and just the right amount of sex" to the coveted 12-minute show (that she didn't have to pay the NFL for.)
Despite how vocal Perry has been about the halftime show, the details surrounding it have been kept under wraps. We know Lenny Kravitz is slated to share the stage with her, and there's also talk that Missy Elliott will work it, too. The AP reports a source close to the show confirmed the rapper's appearance. Perry said during a Super Bowl press conference that she wants to bring someone back as "a throwback of sorts," promising audience's jaws will drop when the first chord sounds.
There will also be lions.
As for a Taylor Swift jab? Who knows? And, frankly, who cares? Billboard asked the singer to address the rumored feud to which Perry replied, "If somebody is trying to defame my character, you're going to hear about it." Whatever. There's one thing we're definitely going to hear come Sunday and that is a big ol' Katy Perry roar. Oh, and the roar of football fans, too. And maybe Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott.
See you at Sunday, February 1 when Super Bowl XLIX kicks off.
