Alexa Chung Went Business Casual for Harry Styles’ Birthday Party

Deciding what to wear to a party is never not a little stressful. When that party is Harry Styles’ 21st birthday bash, attended by everyone from Jennifer Lawrence to David Beckham? The pressure is a bit more amplified than at your average get-together. For this very occasion, Alexa Chung put together the perfect “what, this old thing?” look that was both effortlessly stylish and exceptionally cool.

It’s safe to assume most of the girls in attendance probably dusted off their best body-con dresses for the occasion, because hey, Harry Styles only turns 21 once! Chung, on the other hand, wore a gray flannel skirt that, while short, was still pretty conservative for night-out-in-L.A. standards. She topped it off with a whimsically-patterned pajama top and tailored velvet blazer by Saint Laurent (which is, of course, Harry’s favorite label — a conscious style move, perhaps?). 

The menswear-inspired outfit, which would have worked just fine for a day at the office, was made party-worthy with sleek, black ankle boots and a swipe of bright-red lipstick. If you didn’t get your hands on a coveted invite, at least you can grab Chung’s outfit.
