We read a lot about celebrities going on intense diets — unsurprisingly, since anyone who's facing the cruel scrutiny of the public eye could feel a little weight-conscious. It turns out politicians are not exempt: As the 2016 season ramps up, New York magazine's Jessica Roy rounded up the diet plans of six of the GOP's leading presidential contenders.  Here are a few of the fun facts we learned; check out Roy's story for the full scoop.  Jeb Bush eats a like a caveman.
The former Florida governor (and son/brother of the other two Presidents named Bush) eats Paleo, according to a report in PoliticoMike Huckabee wrote a diet book!
The former Governor of Arkansas forayed into food writing in 2006, with a tome called Quit Digging Your Grave With a Knife and Fork: A 12-Stop Program to End Bad Habits and Begin a Healthy Lifestyle.  (In somewhat unrelated news, this might be the first post we've written about Huck that doesn't involve a him saying something really boneheaded about women.)

Rand Paul doesn't need a health plan.
NYMag points out that the Senator apparently earned an "A" from a health blog that tracks politician fitness. Sen. Paul also seems iffy on whether we need the IRS, the Department of Education, or vaccinesChristie wins.
NJ Governor Chris Christie got a lap-band surgery, lost nearly 100 pounds, and is apparently eating great and exercising. He's the GOP's clear frontrunner...at dieting. For the presidency, not so much.
