Today in news filed under "NO PLEASE LET THIS NOT BE TRUE" and "UGHHHHH WHYYYYYYY," Star Magazine is reporting that beloved couple Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield may have broken up. Well, the tabloid is claiming that Stone and Garfield aren't necessarily dunzo, but that the duo is "taking some time apart to figure things out."
Hollywood Life picked up the report, which — as always — comes to Star via an anonymous source. Don't these anonymous sources have anything better to do with their time? Sheesh; it's not like we've invested ourselves heavily in Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield as a couple or anything. They haven't completely won everyone over with their photobombing, normcore style, paparazzi one-upping, and willingness to spoof themselves on SNL. Nope; we don't dream of befriending them and going to used bookstores together after brunch on Sundays at all.
"It's clear they've drifted apart. It's an unspoken issue, but everybody knows they are on hold," the source tells Star.
Several questions here. How is it clear with two people whose jobs require them to remain apart for months on end that they've drifted apart romantically as opposed to just the physical distance between them? Who is this "everybody" that knows their relationship is on hiatus?
The source also found it troubling that Andrew's current project, a movie being filmed in Taiwan, prevented him from attending the Oscars and Golden Globes with Emma, who was nominated for her work in Birdman. "Andrew was filming, but he could have gotten away if he really wanted to. The fact was, neither one of them wanted to plaster on a smile and pretend everything was okay when it wasn't,” the source explains to Star.
Again, who is this source, and how does he/she know what's going on in someone else's relationship? Garfield and Stone are notoriously private about their personal lives, so let's take this unverified report in Star with all of the grains of salt in the sea. Plus, it came out on April 1. So — fingers crossed — great April Fools' joke, Star Magazine. You really had us worried for a hot second. (Hollywood Life)
