It’s been almost two years since Eva Chen was announced as the editor-in-chief of Lucky, and word broke last night on WWD that the first Asian-American to hold that title at a Condé Nast publication would be leaving the helm. Chen just confirmed on her Instagram account that the break is for real, and confirmed on Twitter she's leaving to spend time with family. Posts Eva, "This morning I made the extremely personal and difficult announcement to my team that I will be transitioning from @luckymagazine in the coming months. The brand will continue on and I'll be leading it into its new chapter. Today/tomorrow/beyond, I'm a #luckygirlforlife. Thank you all for your support on this wonderful adventure I've been fortunate enough to be a part of?" In the two brief years, Lucky has gone through some immense changes, beginning with its confusing break from Condé Nast to join BeachMint properties to become a digital-first e-commerce destination with a print counterpart. Eva Chen took the title chief creative officer of the new venture, renamed The Lucky Group, but still met regularly with Anna Wintour who acted as the publication’s advisor. Though Condé Nast promised that “all of Lucky’s editorial and business teams [were] expected to join the new company,” a significant portion of its editorial staff was laid off.  This February, Lucky Shops was launched as the new content-meets-commerce reincarnation of the old LuckyMag.com. Earlier this month, Chen and CN both denied that the magazine would be folding, despite industry rumors. As of Wednesday night, when the WWD post went live, staffers at Lucky still had not received word of what was happening with their editor-in-chief. We've reached out to Condé Nast for comments regarding the future of the print magazine, and will update once we have more information.
