Kim Kardashian Denies Choosing Only Male Embryos During IVF Treatment

Kim Kardashian has been very vocal about her struggle to get pregnant for a second time. The reality star and her husband Kanye West are now once again expecting, and revealed earlier this week that they're having a boy. According to a new report from Us Weekly, there's more to the story. "She only had boy embryos implanted," a source reportedly close to Kardashian told the magazine. Other sources claimed that the couple wanted to "complete their family" by having a boy. "Kanye loves Nori more than anything, but to make his world complete, he wanted a little boy, an heir," a source in West's circle told the magazine. Not so, says a representative for Kardashian. "The story is false," rep Ina Treciokas told R29 via email. Though the practice is banned in Australia, the U.K., and elsewhere, fertility treatments can indeed be used for selecting the sex of a baby. According to The Fertility Institutes, the pricey procedure involves screening fertilized embryos for genetic diseases and "desired gender" before implanting them into the mother. The use of IVF alone may have also increased the couple's chances of having a boy. A 2010 Australian study found that embryos implanted in the womb five to six days after fertilization had a slightly greater chance of resulting in a boy.
