Sherlock Holmes is headed back to the silver screen. Yes, we know all about the upcoming BBC Christmas special starring the dashing Benedict Cumberbatch — but that's not what we're talking about.
Opening July 17, Mr. Holmes offers yet another cinematic spin on the popular detective character. Ian McKellen plays Holmes at age 93, struggling with memory loss to recover the details surrounding his final case. The film focuses more on character than crime capers, but, if the early reviews mean anything, it's well worth a watch.
As you rev up to spend some quality time with Sherlock, why not settle in and admire the sleuth in all of his many iterations? There's Cumberbatch, of course, and Robert Downey, Jr.'s cheeky interpretation. Holmes purists swear by the classic films starring Basil Rathbone. You've also got Holmes in New York, Holmes as a youngster ... need we go on? Bottom line: You won't be leaving the house this weekend.
