Robert Pattinson Photographs James Dean In Life Trailer

Robert Pattinson: Gregory Pace/BEImages.
In Robert Pattinson's new movie, the noted movie star-heartthrob portrays the man responsible for capturing the aura of one of the world's very first movie star-heartthrobs. Pattinson takes on the role of photographer Dennis Stock in Life, the trailer for which debuted today. Stock sets out to chronicle an up-and-coming actor who, "won't be unknown for long," named James Dean. Yeah, that James Dean. Pattinson might seem like an ideal candidate to play Dean, a role that's been tackled by James Franco. (In fact, Pattinson once compared Twilight to Rebel Without a Cause.) However, in Anton Corbijn's film, the part of Dean goes to Dane DeHaan. DeHaan is probably best known for playing Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and having starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe in 2013's Kill Your Darlings. In the trailer for Life, you can already spot moments that recreate some of Stock's most iconic photographs of Dean. Compare, for instance, Dean's popped coat color and cigarette look, which appears at the beginning and end of the trailer, to this image. The film received mixed reviews out of the Berlin International Film Festival. While Variety called it an "engaging, elegiac portrait of a legend in the making," The Hollywood Reporter argued that the movie "doesn't deliver on its considerable promise." The film does not currently have a U.S. release date, so it's unclear when it may arrive in theaters. Check out the trailer below.
