The kid in all of us will always secretly love Doritos. And now the company has given us a great reason for our adult selves to love them, too. The chip maker has teamed up with the It Gets Better Project to create special limited-edition Doritos that are meant to celebrate and support the LGBT community. The chips have been dubbed Doritos Rainbows and bags literally contain rainbow-colored chips in honor of the Pride flag.
Doritos Rainbows won't be available in stores, but anyone who donates $10 or more to the It Gets Better Project will receive a special edition bag. Plus, 100% of the proceeds from chip sales will go directly to the nonprofit.
"Time and again, our consumers have shown us, there really is nothing bolder than being true to yourself and living life to the fullest. With Doritos Rainbows chips, we’re bringing an entirely new product experience to our consumers to show our commitment toward equal rights for the LGBT community and celebrate humanity without exception," explained Ram Krishnan, chief marketing officer, Frito-Lay, in a press release.
The hashtag #BoldandBetter is being used for the partnership to help inspire the public to be themselves. "There is so much more work to be done, and together, we will inspire the LGBT community and its allies to continue the fight and embrace who they are by living a #BoldandBetter life," stated Brett Peters, communications director, It Gets Better Project.
We have to admit that the thought of eating a green, blue, or purple corn chip is somewhat terrifying, but in this case the message is definitely worth it.
