Today would be the 134th birthday of A. A. Milne. The English author died in 1956, but his wit and wisdom live on in the fictional universe known as the Hundred Acre Wood. Milne published the first Winnie-the-Pooh book in 1926 and introduced some of the most treasured characters in children's literature: Pooh, Eeyore, Piglet, Rabbit, Owl, Kanga, and Roo. (Tigger didn't appear until the second book in the series.)
In the 1960s, Disney started making animated films based on Milne's books. Those short movies became classics in their own right, introducing Pooh and company to children for generations to come. In all their iterations, the residents of the Hundred Acre Wood have doled out lots of life lessons over the years — from the happy-go-lucky Pooh to the realist philosopher Eeyore. Here are 25 of the best Winnie-the-Pooh quotes — and how they still apply to life as grown-ups.
