We're pretty much sold on all the hair-color creations that come out of Hairstory Studio. The hues colorist Roxie Darling creates are the stuff of dreams. She once told our Beauty Director, Megan, that she doesn't understand why her hair doesn't just grow out peach — then convinced Megan to dye hers that color. So when we spotted these snaps on Hairstory's Instagram, we knew they had Darling's magic touch. Behold: betta-fish hair.
"I recently observed the organic flow of color in their bodies," Darling says. "I thought there was a way to make that translate into hair, since hair is also a natural, moving fiber." To Darling, betta fishes' tails seem like manes, so it makes sense that she was inspired to turn those hues into hair colors. She achieved the effect by layering different shades in succession, starting with blue at the root.
What makes this look so mesmerizingly pretty is the way the shades seamlessly blend into one another. And the pastels pack a big punch without being over-the-top. The whole vibe is, in one word, dreamy — and proof that inspiration can come from just about anywhere.
