Walmart Blogger Penny Chic Gets Her Own LBD Collection (At $20 A Dress!)

Back in March of 2011, we wrote about Penny Chic, the project of L.A.-based blogger Shauna Miller, and her controversial decision to dedicate her blog to parsing and celebrating Wal-Mart fashion. As she stated then, "Do I prefer Walmart to Neiman Marcus? Of course not…but looking stylish and effortless is not hard when you’re wearing a $5K outfit. What’s more intriguing to me is the challenge of looking chic at a time when this season’s must-have Little Black Dress is no longer an option." Of course, the moral issues of Walmart's labor, economic, and business practices complicate the issue (of which we dissect in the aforementioned article), but Miller is making sure that this season's must-have little black dress can be available at Walmart, too.
Launching this February 15, Miller is debuting a four-piece collection of LBDs at Walmart.com, under the moniker, "Penny Chic by Shauna Miller." Featuring on-trend design elements and flattering shapes, these dresses cost $20 a pop, are made in the U.S.A. (and outside of Walmart production), and are available in sizes XS to XL, as well as sizes 16-22.
Says Miller, "It's been quite a ride the past couple of months, as I'm sure you can imagine. As a blogger, I am one of the first to come out with my own major product line, let alone a collection of clothes at one of the largest retailers in the world, although to be clear, my collection is not exclusive to just Walmart.com and may be sold at other retailers as well."
As a recurring collection, expect to see other basic capsule collections produced by Miller with just as budget-friendly a price tag.
