Commuter-Friendly Levi’s Collection Hits Shops This Week!

With the popularity of urban biking rising by the moment (read all about it, from Public Bikes' papa, here!), Levi's is introducing new gear aimed specifically for two-wheel commuters. Starting this week, two new garments—the Levi's 511 Commuter Skinny and Commuter Trucker Jacket—hit stores. Created under the brand-new Commuter by Levi's umbrella, the new $78 skinny jean is based off of one of Levi's most popular fits for men, but is upgraded with a little extra stretch, more durable and dirt-and-water-resistant fabrication, and a better, bike-friendlier fit (less lower-back gap, a reinforced crotch, double-layer back pockets, etc.). The jeans will come in a full length and cropped version, as well as denim and non-denim, and will also feature a new hygiene property (developed with tech experts Clariant) to cut down on odor from riding-induced sweat. 3M Scotchlite fabric will also be woven into the pieces to make them extra reflective and safe for late night pedaling. The $128 Commuter version of the iconic Trucker Jacket will have similar features as the jeans, but will mostly be altered in the cut and the addition of a strategically placed iPod pocket, accordion-like sleeves perfect for riding stance, among other improvements. Are you ready to ride? Hit the big Levi's shop in Union Square this week to try the new gear out. And be on the lookout for the goods at select Urban Outfitters come August. Now, if only they'd make the same collection for the ladies!
Levi's, 300 Post Street (at Stockton Street); 415-501-0100.

The Commuter Skinnies comes with a utility waist band designed to store your bike lock.
