Nothing about the fete was particularly newsworthy, except this outfit. While Smith has carved herself a pretty little niche in the sartorial community since whipping her hair way onto the scene, she's never come off quite so mature.
Smith's blue jumpsuit, long dreads, and makeup game are all strong. One could argue it's a bit much for a 13-year-old, but that's the point. She's going for it when it comes to her own personal expression and she's challenging our perception of what's right and wrong for certain ages.
The sheer quantity of outside influence we're all exposed to — teens included — is umpteen times what it was when we were Willow's age. In the face of that, she's experimenting. She's trying on different hats, figuring out what's right for her, and evolving. And, instead of simply pinning, liking, and reblogging an influencer's style (she does plenty of that on her blog), she lives it — something this author humbly wishes he could've done at that age. We're sure it's hard for proud parents Jada and Will to see their little girl blossom in front of everyone's eyes, but, for us, her stylish coming of age is a sight to behold.
