Muggles Rejoice: Harry Potter Lipsticks Now Exist

Update: David Sheen, CEO of Jon Davler, Inc (which manufactures LASplash) responded to Refinery29's request for comment. "LASplash Liquid Lipsticks are not a representation of Harry Potter or any of Harry Potter’s licensed products. However, we are absolutely inspired by Harry Potter and our color creation team are big fans." This article was originally published on August 27, 2015. As the former president of my high school's Harry Potter Club, I find that any wizard-related news sends me into an Amortentia-induced frenzy. (That's the love potion, by the way.) So, when I found out there was a line of Harry Potter-themed lipsticks in the universe, well, you can bet my reaction — it was almost like I'd just received my Hogwarts acceptance letter, 10 years late.

The collection, hailing from cosmetics company LASplash, features 17 liquid lipsticks named after some of J.K. Rowling's most beloved characters, including Nymphadora Tonks, Severus Snape, Bellatrix Lestrange, Sirius Black, Hermione Granger, Luna Lovegood, Ginny Weasley, and Mad-Eye Moody. The shades are pretty out-there (think green, black, and blue) and all feature a super-matte, long-wearing finish.
Turns out, though, it's not all butterbeer and pumpkin juice for Harry Potter fans. Upon hearing the news, the Internet exploded, saying the colors and corresponding names aren't true to the books. Many have complained that LASplash should have made Sirius Black's lipstick a black shade. (Because, duh.) And don't even get us started about "Ravens Claw" — the person who named it clearly isn't familiar with Rowena Ravenclaw (that's Ravenclaw, not Raven's Claw), and the vampy red color is a far cry from the house's colors, which are blue and bronze. Also, does anyone else find it strange that Harry isn't represented in the lineup of shades? Ultimately, though, if we're being fair, the books didn't specify the color of anyone's lips (just that Ron and Lavender were snogging with them constantly). So, to quote the wise Arabella Figg, "there's no point crying over spilt potion." Any kind of Harry Potter-related cosmetics has us over the moon — and we're more than willing to give up a few galleons to get our hands on 'em.
