Although Washington has a perma-crush on burgers and BBQ, the area's foodie scene has been slowly and quietly evolving into something a bit more vegan-friendly, too. (Which is especially good for those of us who, ahem, are suddenly remembering our New Year's resolutions.) So, today we're doing a solid for our veg-loving pals by dishing the area's six best raw and vegan hotspots, handpicked by Gene Baur, president of Farm Sanctuary. Read on to discover his fave destinations for a healthy, happy bite to eat.

Cafe Green
Hit this tucked-away Dupont Circle spot for healthy vegan dishes, desserts, and drinks.

Elizabeth's Gone Raw
Ensconced in a townhouse near McPherson Square, this upscale spot is ideal for elegant, special nights out, since the food is just as beautiful as the setting.

Busboys & Poets
With two locations in D.C., one in Hyattsville, and one in Arlington, this well-established local chain is a great place to meet with vegan and non-vegan friends.

Sticky Fingers Bakery
Head to Columbia Heights to satisfy your sweet tooth with delish vegan deserts. You can also get sandwiches and snacks ranging from nachos to soup, at the hot bar.

Mai Thai
Many ethnic restaurants, especially Thai and Ethiopian outposts, have vegan options. Old Town's Mai Thai serves veggie and tofu dishes, and makes Thai iced tea with coconut milk instead of cow's milk.

Great Sage
If you're up for a drive, head to this Clarksville spot for an excellent vegan brunch.
