Though it may look like Giorgio Armani couldn't be that much older than the models in his campaign photos, the 77-year-old is definitely climbing in years. A ways past the normal retirement age, Armani designs for and manages the Armani SpA brand, which is still independently operated and run (a rarity for luxury brands of Armani's size these days).
Over the weekend, Italian newswires reported that the designer was thinking about stepping down from his role at Armani, and leaving the brand to a foundation (a non-profit organization typically dedicated to charitable efforts). Whether Armani's SpA going to end up a part of LVHM within the next five years, land in the hands of his nieces and nephews (Andrea Camerana, Pantaleo Dell'Orco, Silvana Armani, and Roberta Armani), or remain with a foundation is yet to be decided… but it shouldn't be long before the creative head will step out of the design studio to focus 24/7 on some R&R.
