Guerlain’s New Lipstick Is A ’30s Throwback

hydrating lipstick by Guerlain
With Guerlain's new Rouge Automatique hydrating lipstick, the saying "what goes around comes around" definitely rings true. Based off packaging from a 1936 Art Deco-style Guerlain lipstick, Rouge Automatique's sleek, gold case employs a simple, one-handed slide to reveal the new lightweight lip color—vintage, yet perfect for the modern multi-tasker. But the lipstick formula itself has gone high tech: The 25 shades range from beige to bright and contain a unique Cristal Pigment that allows the rich, long-lasting color to go on sheer, plus, during application, the formula softens to a liquid-like form (using the temperature of your lips) for effortless coverage (read: no mirror needed). Our spring shade picks? A coral called Nahema and Champs-Elysees, a bright magenta.
Guerlain Rouge Automatique Long-Lasting Hydrating Lipstick, $35, available in April at Bergdorf Goodman
