New York City's art scene may be concerned with the constant stream of "who's who," but one name is slowly rising to the top of its most-talked-about list — and she has absolutely no idea it's even happening.
Meet Brooklyn-based "Pickle Beholding" — a.k.a. Miss Pickle — a 4-year-old French bulldog with a penchant for all things creative. Miss Pickle doesn't need dog parks or puppy play dates; rather, she gets her fix at art shows and gallery openings, and for the past year and a half, she has been posing for her owner, art adviser Katie Howard, at some of the city's hottest openings and events.
"There has really been a tipping point in the last two months," Howard tells The Daily Beast of Pickle's recent step into the limelight (she has more than 3,000 followers on Instagram, after all). “I’m getting people and gallerists coming up to me asking ‘Is that the dog on Instagram,’ or ‘Is that Pickle?’” Now, the Frenchie is sought after by major New York galleries, like Sean Kelly and Lehmann Maupin, to make appearances at shows.
Really, the only thing better than an Ezra Johnson sculpture is one photographed with an adorable little dog in the corner. Pickle, you are a star.
