Mulberry’s Golden Apple-Covered Bag (And Their New Soho Store)

The problem with Fashion Week is that looking at covetable collection after covetable collection makes us want to immediately stock up on slimline hangars, take an extra-long lunch break between shows, and go into full-on shopaholic mode. While we've resisted the temptation thus far, we're now in danger of caving, thanks (or no thanks) to the opening of Mulberry's first U.S. flagship store on Spring Street in Soho. We attended a very civilized "tea" in honor of the Brit label's second NYC digs, and size-wise, it blows the Bleecker location out of the "pond." The 5,000-square-foot space preserves many of the original features from its former life, including tin ceilings and one epic skylight, while adding a dash of cool-and-cozy Britannia from the brand's London flagship, resulting in a mix of trans-Atlantic sophistication that captures both style capitals—think: clean lines, fresh white walls, light oak-framed display cases, and the signature Mulberry "M" scattered here and there. Our favorite part, however, has got to be the curving, luxe library, a lesson in color-blocking that creates a circular nook perfect for a mid-spending sit-down. To celebrate their natural love affair with NYC, Mulberry has rolled out two exclusive bag designs all about the Big Apple—the New York Clipper, a customized version of a classic Mulberry style featuring the New York-inspired "Peace, Love and Apple" motif. And if money isn't a consideration, there's an Alexa bag for the ultra-chic, made from oak ostrich and covered in dozens of gold apple-shaped rivets (suddenly, studs are cool again). Needless to say, we want to take a bite.
