The Poke Craze: 9 Reasons Why You Gotta Catch ‘Em All

Considering L.A.'s winter was nonexistent this year, summer has been creeping up for a while now. Of course, the pangs of wanderlust are especially strong this time of year — who couldn't use, say, a Hawaiian summer vacation right about now? If you've been dreaming of a tropical escape but will likely be chained to your desk all season long, you're in luck: L.A.'s latest food craze brings a bit of island life right here to our smoggy city.

Traditionally consisting of raw ahi tuna marinated in veggies, poke is a Hawaiian favorite that's having its moment in the L.A. spotlight right now. A slew of poke joints have been popping up all over town in the last several months, including Sweetfin Poké, which just opened last week, Poke N Roll,  Spinfish Poke House, Mainland Poke, and PokeMix. If two's a coincidence and three's a trend, then five new spots must mean it's officially here to stay, right?
