JFK, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra: Unseen Photography Becomes New Rat Pack Exhibition

While this generation might be more familiar with the Brat Pack, sometimes nothing beats the original format. And while that might not be true with the iPad, we're firmly standing behind the fact that no one was flyer than The Rat Pack. Ice, Ice Baby doesn't even begin to capture their cool factor, as evidenced by a new exhibition opening at Milk Gallery on Thursday. The show, also accompanied in a book by Reel Art Press, is the first major photographic exhibition of the genre in NYC, with a cache of unseen pics, many discovered from a box of negatives found in an agent's office last year. Escape into Frank Sinatra's world—the prints on tap will transport you to Martinis, love triangles, glamour, glamour, and more glamour—celebrity culture that's sorely missing from the Teen Mom saturated pages of Life & Style. The cast of characters is iconic; The likes of Marilyn Monroe, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, and Ava Gardner form a narrative that hops from Oceans 11 to JFK's inauguration, with a whole lot of partying in between.
The Rat Pack, March 16 to March 28, 2011, Milk Gallery, 450 West 15th Street (at 10th Avenue). The Rat Pack book, $650, available at Bookmarc, 400 Bleecker Street (at West 11th Street); 212-620-4021.
