Alex Wang Renders Purses Obsolete

For people who like their things carried around neatly, Alexander Wang provided a great and neurotic alternative to purses: sweaters, jackets, and overcoats featuring built-in organizing solutions. With pockets for phones, iPads, lipsticks, business cards, and notebooks, Wang's pieces were like a modern-day Boy Scout. And, for those Fashion Week veterans but Brooklyn n00bs who made the 30-minute "trek" out to the Navy Yards, a little bit of urban-explorer preparedness probably looked plenty enticing.
But, make no mistake, Wang's bags and shoes were stellar as usual despite all the other storage options presented — this included a great new multipack system that can strap pieces onto one another. And, the over-the-knee and shielded ankle boots are also bound to be hits this season. Practical (and ultra-sexy), too, were the variety of jackets that looked as warm as they did cool, a concept we're glad to see at least one designer pioneering (seriously — what's the point of a coat if you can't go outside in it?).
Of course, the Lite-Brite, iridescent, glow-in-the-dark pieces in his collection are also sure to become collector's items, and it's rewarding to see Wang — prince of the downtown Brooklyn nighttime scene — figure out a way to make his ladies shine like diamonds, even when it's pitch black outside.
