The video for “ACheerlaeder” plays like a mission statement for
Bikini
, with the music and visuals packing in as much DIY sexy hedonism as possible. Bikini have steadily been gaining steam due to remixes from high-profile producers like CFCF and fellow Canadian rising star Grimes. "ACheerLaeder" toes the line between MGMT-indebted electropop and the chopped-up gazey-er production of acts like Pictureplane. Ultimately, Bikini settle on a "bigger is better" approach, with clipped vocals, skuzzy synths, and pedal effects buzzing with maximum energy. The video reminds me of a visual compliment to Michael Chabon’s novel The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, with glamorous young folks dressed in their Gatsby best as they romp around Victoria suburbs. A fleeting feeling of emptiness also permeates the carousing, but I suppose there are worse ways to spend a summer. We've got a first look at their new video, below.
