Don't get us wrong: We love fast fashion. But, those easy-to-wear, easy-to-buy finds from our favorite stores inevitably end up on everyone. And, we'd rather not come down with a bad case of samesies. This is why a vintage shopping habit is a good shopping habit — it can truly save the (outfit of the) day.
Besides being unique, vintage pieces are filled with history. Who owned this '80s sequined stunner? How many concerts have these Rolling Stones-print pants been to? And, what clubs did this gold blazer frequent? These are the questions we asked while rounding up R29ers to try on the vintage gems — all scoured from the B.O.R.N. vintage shop in Harlem.
The boutique is cherished by New Yorkers for both its high-end throwbacks and mysterious treasures. But, even if you won't be in the city anytime soon, you can still visit the store when its lifestyle makeover series, B.O.R.N. To Style, premieres Tuesday, July 15 at 10p ET/11p PT, on FYI Network.
Until then, get your vintage fix here. We challenged our editors to mix the old with the new, and ahead are the results. But, clicker beware: You might have the urge to bust out your mom's '70s kimono.
