ARIA Nominations 2022: Thelma Plum, Julia Jacklin & Amy Taylor Are The Ones To Watch

The 2022 ARIA Awards are just hours away, and after a tough two years for the music industry, the recently-announced nominations were warmly welcomed by local artists.

For the second year in a row, nominations are not split into male and female categories in a move towards greater gender equity at music's night of nights. This year 36% of the nominees are women, up from 35% last year. There are 40 female nominees, 71 male nominees and one non-binary nominee.

Melbourne group Amyl and the Sniffers — led by vocalist Amy Taylor — has secured six ARIA nominations for Album of the Year, Best Group, Best Rock Album, Best Australian Live Act, Producer – Best Produced Album and Best Video. This puts them in line with Flume who has also landed six nominations, while Aussie group RÜFÜS DU SOL leads with seven nods.

Sydney-born singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin has scored four nominations for Best Solo Artist, Best Independent Release, Best Adult Contemporary Album and Best Video.

Thelma Plum has received three nominations for Best Solo Artist, Best Pop Release and Best Australian Live Act, while fellow First Nations artist Barkaa has attracted two nods for Best Hip Hop/Rap Release and Best Video.

Australian Idol judge Amy Shark has been nominated for Best Australian Live Act for her See U Somewhere Australia Tour 2022.

The ARIA Awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 24 at Sydney's The Hordern Pavilion, hosted by Natalie Imbruglia, alongside G Flip and Rue.

The awards will feature live performances from several local artists including Baker Boy, Dami Im, Flume, Jessica Mauboy, Tones and I, and Vance Joy.

In terms of presenters, expect to see the likes of Heartbreak High star Ayesha Madon, Becca Hatch, Briggs, Flex Mami, Genesis Owusu, Illy, Jerome Farah, Josh Teskey, Kye, Lime Cordiale, Matt Gudinski, Montaigne, Peking Duk, Peter Garrett, Richard Wilkins, Ruel, The Wiggles, Tones And I, Troy Cassar-Daley and Vera Blue.

Brooke Boney will host the pre-show streaming on 9Now from 6pm AEDT, before the ARIA Awards will air at 7:30pm AEDT on Channel 9 and 9Now.
