Benching

The Definition: Talking to someone enough that they’re a romantic option, but never actually escalating things enough to date. Use It In A Sentence: I have a few guys benched but I haven’t decided if any of them are ready to be my boyfriend.

Breadcrumbing

The Definition: You don't break up or ghost, but you leave “breadcrumbs” in the form of reacts or texts. You never initiate the next hang. Use It In A Sentence: We still talk but I haven’t seen her since July — I think I’m getting breadcrumbed.

Catfishing

The Definition: When someone creates a whole new online identity in order to start a relationship. Use It In A Sentence: Lisa has been talking to that guy from eHarmony forever and they haven’t met yet... it has to be a catfish situation, right?

Kittenfishing

The Definition: You don’t pretend to be someone else, but you emphasize tell some little white lies in order to seem more appealing. Use It In A Sentence: I don’t want to kittenfish, but I am afraid to admit to them that I hated "Euphoria."

Paperclipping

The Definition: An ex pops up for no particular reason — they don't want to meet up, they just want to remind you that they're there. Use It In A Sentence: Yeah, he saw me on Snap Maps and texted me JUST to say I was in his neighborhood — total paperclip situation.

Zombieing

The Definition: Zombieing happens when an ex pops up in your life again — often in the form of a social media interaction. Use It In A Sentence: I think they heard that I’m seeing someone new and decided to zombie, so I blocked them.

Situationship

The Definition: It feels like a relationship, but it's not. You kiss regularly, connect emotionally, and text often, but don't officially commit. Use It In A Sentence: I'd really like to make our situationship a relationship, but for some reason that spooks her.
