This Is How Denim is made — and it's totally mesmerizing

How stuff is made

The pattern for each part of the jeans is designed.

The denim is cut into shape.

chain stitch, overlock, topstitch, whipstitch, and flat fell seam are what holds these jeans together.

Belt loops are attached with a safety stitch.

A final piece holds it all up: the waistband.

There's a wash, stretch, and shape for every style you can imagine.

The jeans go through at least two washes to bring down the color.

One of these washes is a stone wash, Which is just what it sounds like.

Premium denim is often deconstructed to give it a distressed look.

Shotgun pellets, warp brushes, and Dremel tools are all used to create a worn look.

They are then sprayed with potassium acid to give the illusion of wear — the potassium acid brightens the denim.

Now it's time for the finishing touch: the tag!
