Reality: Sweat doesn’t smell at all. The odor you associate with sweat comes from sweat mixing with other bacteria on your skin and clothing.
Reality: Sweat is water and sodium, and contains less than 1% of “toxins.” Your liver and kidneys are actually responsible for toxin banishment, so as long as you drink water and go to the bathroom, you’re doing fine.
Reality: Sweat is colorless on its own. When it mixes with aluminum in deodorant and shirt fabric, that annoying yellowish stain can result.
Reality: The point of working out is not just to get sweaty. Exercise strengthens your muscles and keeps your heart healthy. Plus, it can help you relieve stress and manage anxiety.
Sweating is natural and healthy, but that doesn’t mean you need to give up your antiperspirants!
Reality: You totally can. If you’re constantly sweating despite not being warm, stressed, or eating spicy food, you may have a condition called “hyperhidrosis.” The best way to deal is to see a doctor.
Reality: Though it’s rare, there is a condition called “anhidrosis,” which means your body is sweating so little that it’s unable to properly cool itself. This is another situation where you’ll want to see a doctor.
-Find a deodorant or antiperspirant that you like -Take regular showers (and wash your clothes regularly!) to minimize stink -Wear moisture-wicking materials and loose-fitting clothing
It’s summer, and everyone sweats. There’s no need to feel ashamed! Stay hydrated, and seek some AC when you’re over it.
