At the tender age of 30, Jason Wu seems to have already cornered the market on cool, high-low fashion design — and now the style prodigy is setting his sights on color cosmetics in a collaboration with Lancôme.
"I feel like if you can design beautiful things, you can apply that ethos to anything you design,” said the designer in a recent interview with WWD. Cosmetics seems like a natural next step for the multi-talented designer, who has already put his stamp on everything from scented candles to a nail polish collaboration with CND. “I think makeup is one of the closest parts to fashion — it goes hand in hand in almost every single case,” adds Wu.
On why he chose Lancôme to be his partner in this venture, Wu says that he felt that the brand reflected aspects of his own designs. "In so many ways, Lancôme shares a lot of the same DNA as my brand — it’s feminine and there’s something quite classic about it that never gets old."
The line, which will include fifteen items, will be available exclusively at Nordstrom stores (except for NYC, where it will be available at Bergdorf Goodman), starting this September during New York Fashion Week.
