Big news, people: WWD reports today that Suzy Menkes will be joining Condé Nast International as international Vogue editor. Menkes will serve as a reporter and critic and be “a permanent presence” on all Vogue websites in non-U.S. markets, according to a statement by Jonathan Newhouse, chairman and chief executive of Condé Nast International.
This move represents a major shake-up in the fashion world, since Menkes has served as style editor of The International New York Times (formerly International Herald Tribune) for an epoch-defining 25 years. The legendary, be-quiffed Menkes has famously written nearly 2 million words for the publication during that time.

Menkes herself stated that she'll be "writing online and [...] doing my same job." She will also remain based in London, but since the 19 markets she'll serve as international Vogue editor include Britain, France, Italy, China, Russia, and Japan, this move will increase her international reach significantly. Menkes' start date has yet to be determined.
"Change is good," Menkes said in a statement about her move. "It's what fashion is all about." We can live with that — as long as she never changes her hair. (WWD)
