If you've heard it once, you've heard it a billion times: Summer is prime time to start playing around with highlights. But, if you're over ombré and too scared not ready to take the pastel plunge, what else is left? Take a page from Aubrey Plaza's book of hair coloring, that's what.
The Parks and Recreation star arrived at the premiere of her new film Palo Alto sporting a hair shade we hadn't seen on her before. Instead of the lighter brown that seems like the obvious choice to pair with a dark hue like hers, she opted for an auburn. And, rather than doing all-over streaks, Plaza kept the color focused on the bottom portion of her hair, avoiding the top layer of her tresses almost completely. The result was seriously subtle, but it still made a major impact.
So, it's not as in-your-face as an ombré, but that's probably a good thing for a lot of ladies about to dive into some foils. And, the best part about Plaza's new shade is that it blends so seamlessly with her locks' natural hue. These aren't quite highlights but more underlights. So, while we love our pastel gals (we're looking at you, Nicole Richie), Plaza's underlights prove that not every change you make to your locks has to be ultra dramatic. Her nuanced approach to hair color is definitely winning us over. Now, if only we could master her wit and on-point side-eye...
