For some, mismatched prints are the sartorial version of the bogeyman. Very menacing, very scary, and likely to appear if you stare into the mirror long enough. But, even fashion wallflowers can get in on the trend without feeling (or looking) too out there. One glance at Olivia Palermo's monochrome outfit is enough to convert even the most cynical of pattern mixers. "Polka dots, stripes, and checks?" some might question. But, here's why it works: Sticking to a uniform palette — here, black and white — will lessen the intensity of the mashup. Meaning it's totally okay, if not recommended, to accent with a bright pump to boost your cheekily understated ensemble up a notch.
