If Kendall Jenner has taught us anything, it’s that the success in modeling today goes far beyond prerequisites like perfect bone structure and a good runway walk. Between Jenner, fellow "Instagirls" like Gigi and Bella Hadid, and Hailey Baldwin, 2014 is officially the year of the social media star-cum-model — and Sofia Richie is next in line.
The 16-year-old Californian is the daughter of Lionel Richie and sister of Nicole, so she’s not exactly a newcomer to being in front of the camera. She’s already made cameos on her sister’s Instagram and her TV series, Candidly Nicole. Boasting 588,000 followers, her own Instagram isn’t too shabby, either. The teenager dipped into modeling last year with a campaign for Mary Grace Swim, but The Daily Mail reports that Richie has just gotten serious by inking a deal with Select Model Management.
The London-based agency is home to both catwalk regulars and It Girls-slash-models alike, such as Agyness Deyn, Irina Shayk, Jessica Hart, and Pixie Geldof, so we have a feeling that Richie will fit right in. But, while it's easy to dismiss her as another aspiring celebrity model, given her family connections and Internet fame, don't roll your eyes just yet. She’s 5-foot-10, totally gorgeous, and clearly determined, which we think adds up to worth watching.
