Anyone who remembers Taylor Swift saying in November that she'd never show her belly button probably felt confused thumbing across the Instagram above, posted in January. Wither goes thy resolve, T-Swift?
But today, Swift illuminated why she chose to reveal the world's most sought-after navel. And, her reasoning is actually pretty solid. In an interview with BBC Radio 1, Swift explained that she was enjoying a whale-watching vacation in Maui with her besties-of-the-month Haim (as you do), when she realized her boat was being tailed by the paparazzi.
"[We] realized, 'Okay, so they got pictures of us in our bikinis.' I don't want them to make, like, $100,000 for a bikini shot."
So, the ever-plucky Swift corralled the ladies of Haim onto the bow of the boat to take "better bikini shots so [the paparazzi] don't make as much money on theirs." Quelle rebellion, Taylor!
We commend Swift on her quick thinking and ability to get out in front of practically any story, from the "too many girlfriends" claim to creepy photogs' navel-gazing. Let no one say that Swift is not the savviest. (Elle)
