Iggy Azalea Cancels Pittsburgh Pride Performance After Twitter Backlash

Iggy Azalea will not be performing at Pittsburgh Pride this weekend. Billboard reports that the decision to cancel her performance, came after widespread criticism, due to the rapper's past homophobic and racist tweets. This also comes after news of her recently canceled Great Escape Tour. The LGBTQIA community is referring to some tweets that Azalea has now deleted. (Though, they're still archived.) The rapper tweeted things like, "When guys whisper in each others ears I always think its kinda homo," and "wondered why my butt felt like it was about to grow legs, flip me off & walk away. then I remembered i played soccer yestrdy w 5 dyke bitches," Billboard reports. The backlash against the rapper wasn't limited to a few small groups, either. Even the Pittsburgh City Council President Bruce Kraus reportedly joined what Billboard calls the "anti-Azalea" movement. Her performance would have surely been interrupted by group protests. Azalea announced her Pittsburgh cancelation on Twitter Monday afternoon, saying she was "truly disappointed." She apologized for offending anyone with her tweets. "I meant no harm and deeply regret ever uttering those words," she wrote. "I am sorry to anyone I have offended or disappointed & I wish all my fans and friends participating in Pride the best of luck." (Billboard)
